Film Analysis Workshops

The Toronto Turkish Film Festival’s Film Analysis Classes are part of our year-round programming, offering guided, accessible discussions that explore cinema as an art form, cultural practice, and critical language.

These sessions are designed for students, cinephiles, and anyone interested in learning how to watch films more closely. No academic background required.

What to Expect

Each workshop focuses on close reading and collective discussion, using selected film scenes to explore how cinema constructs meaning at both conscious and unconscious levels.

Participants will engage with:

  • Narrative structure, rhythm, and visual storytelling

  • Mise-en-scène, framing, sound, and editing as expressive systems

  • Genre, authorship, and historical context

  • Desire, gaze, and affect in cinematic experience

Sessions combine short lecture segments with guided discussion, creating a collaborative and open learning environment that encourages multiple perspectives and interpretations.
